‘Parliament House, afternoon shadow’ by Kylie Stillman is a unique artwork in the Parliament House Art Collections.
It was first displayed in Parliament House for the 2018 exhibition, Façade, before being acquired into the Rotational Collection.
Taking a mix of 32 discarded books, Stillman hand cut the page edges to create the familiar façade of Australian Parliament House! You can see the flag up close in the third image.
The books Stillman used included a 1963 volume of Senate Debates, a 1984 copy of the Acts of Parliament, and a 1996 Statutory Rules record.
