#Repost @linden_new_art with @get_repost ・・・ We asked Kylie Stillman what she had been working on recently and what had been keeping her entertained and motivated over the recent weeks. @kylie.stillman ’s solo exhibition 'The Opposite of Wild' was shown in 2017 at Domain House in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens, while our Acland St home was being renovated.⁠ ⁠ “Isolation for me has had me yearning for everything audio. The need to be on screens to communicate for work and learning had me reach for Bluetooth headphones and speakers and flood the house and studio with music, audio readings and conversation. Here are my three loves that are getting me through:⁠ ⁠ Dan Fox @d_a_n_f_o_x has released a makeshift audio recording of his book ‘Limbo’; the work has been great to revisit in the current climate of isolation:⁠ soundcloud.com/danfoxx/sets/dan-fox-limbo⁠ ⁠ Richard Watts, 9am - 12pm Thursday on @3rrrfm RRR Smart Arts. #Repost @rmit_art with @get_repost ・・・ Profiling the amazing female artists, photographers, academics and researchers who inspire and lead our work as an art school: With a career spanning twenty years Kylie Stillman is a Melbourne based artist who works primarily with sculptural processes. As a painting student at RMIT during the 90’s Stillman struggled to be inspired by paint found in a tube, she preferred the challenge of finding materials and pigments from the ‘real world’ to create an artwork. Best known for her book sculptures and woodcarvings, Stillman uses scalpel blades, jigsaws, sewing materials and drills to alter objects and create negative spaces that depict ‘signs of life’. Birds, plant life and the artist’s own scribbles are frequently used as subject matter. #Repost @hg_hamilton with @get_repost ・・・ “The title ‘Masking the Seam’ came from reading ‘Cloth Lullaby - The woven life of Louise Bourgeois’ by Amy Novesky in the book it talks about Bourgeois family background in textiles and the act of working with cloth scraps ‘Two halves of a cloth would find their way back together again ‘rentrayage’ - to reweave across the cut.
